HOLIDAY DECORATING ON A DIME
The holidays are often the time of year when American homes receive the most visitors. Loved ones visit for the season or often just for supper; friends and other guests stop by to exchange gifts and to spread holiday cheer. Because of the number of people who may be spending an extended period of time relaxing over dinner or dessert in your home, it’s a popular tradition to decorate your house inside and out. So popular, in fact, that many department and craft stores will offer a wide selection of holiday decoration materials, all at a price that could potentially wear out your holiday budget.
Luckily, it’s easy to decorate your home for the holidays without breaking the bank. By taking a few simple creative ideas to heart, you’ll be able to fully dress your home for the season while being mindful of your spending limits. In this article, we’ll make a few easy and inexpensive suggestions for giving your home a bit of holiday cheer. Try them this season with children, friends, or family members to help get you into the spirit of the season.
Plan Your Decorations
The key to smart spending for any project is to make a list and create a budget to allow for the purchase of a reasonable amount of materials. Holiday decorating is no exception. To begin, choose two or three areas of the house on which to focus.
Would you like to invite your guests to sit down to a custom-decorated table arrangement? Maybe your main sitting room would seem warmer to holiday guests with seasonal colors or decorative candles. Or perhaps your front doors and windows should greet parking guests and passers-by with festive wreaths or other holiday symbols. Don’t try to decorate too much, but take some time to think of which areas of your home would benefit the most from a bit of holiday flair.
Think Simply
While the craftier among us may enjoy hand-stenciled gift tags and personalized napkin holders, others may wish to bring holiday spirit to our home décor with relatively little time consumption. That’s where thinking simply comes in. Simple color combinations and the addition of small decorations can bring the warmth of the holidays to any living space.
Red and dark green are the most commonly sought after seasonal colors, but gold, neutral yellow, white, navy, and silver are also festive. Try layering two of these colors using solid fabrics for a simple holiday table or mantle cover. Glass beads in one or two colors, marbles, sand, or even cranberries can provide a seasonal glow to an inexpensive tea light or pillar candle in a glass bowl or jar. Gold or silver garland over red or white solids can create holiday cheer for just a few cents. Keep simple in mind and see what you can come up with.
Reuse Wrapping Materials
Most of us will have a great deal of paper and ribbon left over from wrapping our holiday gifts. Scraps and leftovers don’t need to be thrown away—with a little time, they can be used for decorations. Tie ribbons and bows on wreaths, trees, lamps, candelabras, banisters and handrails, or anywhere else that could use a bit of cheer. Use paper scraps to wrap photo frames like presents or do the same to empty boxes and display them in clusters in your living room or den. Or use leftover paper to create personalized gift tags, using gold or silver paint pens to add a bit of shine.

Do they make this type of socket in this size?
I am looking for a twin socket like this, but in candelabra size. I don't want the switch.

Please don't suggest that I use that along with a pair of standard-to-candelabra adapters... I am working with a small lamp and need the sockets to be small!
Thank you.
I also don't want this:

The overall length is too long... I'm going to need the "conjoined" style cluster.
Sorry Ammy, The one from Grand Brass is as close as you are going to get, without custom making one.
