Basic Faux Finish Techniques for the Homeowner

ok, i want to crackle finish my kitchen cabinets, but i am not sure what colors to use, i am going for a tuscan look. mustard yellow will be my top coat. should i use black or a chocolate brown for the first coat???
I say black will look nice.
